This one is simple, but is rarely closed. Usually they just rely on the cattle guard to keep the cattle in without too much regard for keeping people out.
Several of you have remarked before on the irony of a gate that says "Welcome" but remains locked. I like it. :)
I like the patriotism, here.
And then there's the state pride, of course, along with support for "America's Team."

I like the God Bless Texas one.
I always enjoy these pictures. Hope you have a nice day.
I liked the welcome gates with metal images on side. Inviting...
In that first picture ... would like to see the cute house hidden in the background. Can't you trespass a little?
Love the 'Welcome' gate with the cowboy/cowgirl each side!
Probably the 'welcome sign' is for their visitors to know they have arrived!! strange to welcome and keep gate closed.
My gate is open most of the time.
I enjoy seeing your photos of gates and barns and your fantastic photos of the birds and wild life..
happy days Tex. Thank you
Some of these Texas gates have moved into an art form. I love the Welcome one!
12 miles away? let me imaggine how Texas is.with those fence a long the way, farmhouse, cattle, large land....mmm for sure beautiful place.
have a nice day Theresa
I'm going to have to go with 'Hail to the Redskins'
Simple is always good. Whilst we have plenty of fences here there are far fewer gates.
I like the 2nd/3rd the best with the cowboy/cowgirl! It's fun to see all these gates, so many different ones!
Nice shots again...... well done, i like them
Greetings, Joop
Wowwww...lovely !!!...xxx..
nice. ( :
Morning Tex it is very cold here it looks nice and warm there.
I always like seeing Texas gates. Hug B
Love them all great photos!
Morning Tex.....Love those gates, the God Bless Texas is wonderful, love it....Always fun to see the Texas gates, Blessings Francine.
Cool gates! Love the cowboy & cowgirl silhouettes. Not sure, if that is what they are called. Have a happy day!
I'm a Texas girl and LOVE all kinds of gates as well!
Lana
These are great! I really like the "Welcome" one~ it looks very friendly and inviting! :)
Totally amazed at all the different fences and gates you find!
Love these T., the God Bless Texas is the best in my mind...
i like the one with the cowboy and cowgirl, that is a great gate... and bob would love the last one since he is a die hard Dallas cowboys fan, has been since the beginning. he has a couple of DC shirts and our dog max had one.... he had a DC sweatshirt when we got married and when it started to fall apart i wanted to toss it, NO was the answer.
I love coming home and seeing everyone's gates. We've stopped and taken picturs of few in the past. Thanks or sharing and giving me pieces of "home".
LOL! I guess there is a little irony with a locked gate and a welcome salutation. ;) blessings ~ tanna
Ha ha, love the last one. I can't believe all the gates in a 12 mile drive!
12 miles, WHAT?? I thought you had covered the state!! I love those leaning peeps and I adore that one is a girl!
ummmmm, I think you are probably covered for "life" in Texas"!!!!
I keep looking at that pretty sky above all those gates! :-)
A first time visit to Texas wouldn't be complete without some gate and fence captures! Thans to you until I get there!
We love these. Whereabouts in Texas are you? Never asked before. Have a terrific Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
When someone says "Dallas", I don't think Cowboys; I think J.R.!
So TEXAS!
i love the god bless texas one!
i love the god bless texas one!
These are great! I have a question for you tho. I know most of the gates are to keep cattle in but you see some fences and gates that don't have cattle, and aren't ranches. Are they used to keep people out?
Splendid gates !
Gates and blue skies - it can't get better!
the 'welcome' gate should have an addendum which reads 'but call first'
I like the flag, too. After 34 years of living here I have finally gotten my flag pole - and a big one at that. Before we had to hang our flag from the portico. Now we have a flag pole appropriately set in a stone base. Of course, this was all designed by My Honey and installed by our friend, Bill the Home Builder.
Great gates Tex! 12 miles to town, sounds good.. :) Wouldn't want to get in traffic or anything either.. ;)
Wow. There are a lot of these. You see the occasional one here in Alabama. I need to start collecting them.
I like the last one. I need a street sign for my piece of driveway...
Dearest Theresa,
Texas is a State of EXAMPLE and it shows. You once again captured that beautifully. That's about the road length to town for our friends that have to drive alongside the river for crossing at the only bridge and than into town. We live only a couple of miles apart in birds eye view... There will be another bridge so we could bike over!
Hugs,
Mariette
Like that low profile wagon wheel gate with the cattleguard!
My favorite is the 'Welcome' one. Lots of land, lots of gates!!! Keep going. Sort of like deer stands in Wisconsin!! Do I see a coffee table book in the making?
I never tire of seeing your fences - it makes me want to find a few of my own :)
Beautiful fence - the last one is my favorite :) Hanne Bente
I'm a sucker for the star one!
Texas must be a very decorative place!
Love seeing all your gates! We don't have many here.
These are all nice entry statements!
I never get tired of your fence pics!
My way of seeing some of Texas.
At first, I missed the cowboy & cowgirl next to the welcome gate, now THAT's Texas!
Great looking gates -- had to chuckle at the "welcome" on the closed gate!
Great gates. One of these days, I'm gonna have a pretty one.
I can never tire of seeing gates. These are great!
"Welcome but not here" it should say!...:)JP
I do like that Welcome one. I read it as Welcome (if you are a friend).
I like the cowboy/cowgirl silhouettes on the second one! The star on the last one is nice. You can't go wrong with a star or a wagon wheel on a gate!
I never tire of the seemingly endless supply of gates and fences you have nearby. These today are very good.
Gates everywhere. I started noticing the fencing once we crossed the Mississippi. It's everywhere out here.
love the last one. God bless Texas! The Cowboys, however...Jerry Jones ruined that for us. Still can't get over the number of gates and fences near you!
Whoa..I love your finding of fences, gates, and I echo Gail's comments on how many there are around you!
ja daar is nog ruimte dat kennen wij hier niet.
I like gates and fences too. I like the ones with an archway. I do think gates are restricting though---to the owners and the visitor. . If there are 3 sitting in a truck a true cowboy sits in the middle-- well he is closer to the radio and he doesn't have to get out to open a gate.

Thank you, MB
I love the third shot, it's opening up for you.
Zauroczyła mnie druga brama z postaciami przy niej. Pozdrawiam.
I fell in love with the characters the second gate with her. Yours.
Tex, always showing a very interesting gate.
Which is prettier? Tough choice.
Regards
Lucia
Endless land, endless sky, endless sun. I remember it well when we lived there back in 1990. God Bless Texas - yes, indeed.
The number of gates around you is crazy! I hadn't thought of "Welcome" above a locked gate. Nice!
Love the gates, love the look of the weather better! It's fweeeeezing here.
Great series!!
I always like the pictures of gates. I also think it's pretty neat when somebody catches something like a welcome sigh and a locked gate.
They are very original, I like the third photo, and that flag flying :))
a kiss
Great art Theresa!
How nice with the silhouette couples that stand there and take a break :)
T, nice ones! I'm not sure about the silhouettes!
I love all of them...in spite of being closed, they seem pretty classy to me! I especially love the patriotic one!
Fences and Texas...sorta go together, especially with stars and flags!!
I love gates. Whenever we visit Central or Eastern Oregon I'm always enchanted by the gates to the ranches. I often wonder what is at the end of the road! I would love to have a fence with a nice gate in front of my house but my sweetheart thinks gates are unwelcoming. He thinks they say, 'Stay away!' I disagree and I told him a 'Welcome' sign on the gate would fix that!
~Adrienne~
and Texas has some MIGHTY gates indeed!
always state proud in Texas....love the gates....keep bringing them...
Love the last one. It's great!
Hope all is well with you Teresa.

Something there is that loves a proper gate. And I like these!
Happy Aloha to YOU

I like the woman and the man on that gate
You have the best gates -- I always loved the Lone Star when we were in your state. Starting to see it in other places too and don't quite understand that. (Transplants longing for home maybe.
I like the Welcome sign even if it is a bit contradictory with the closed gate! ;)
All the people in East Texas gave up their gate allotments to you folks!
Love the state pride one the best.
I thought there was some sort of design on the top of that first gate until I enlarged the photo and realized that I was seeing the roof of a house that was partially hidden by a rise in the ground. Love the last one, with the "God Bless Texas" and the "Dallas Cowboys Dr" sign.
I always enjoy seeing gates like that.
The top one is similar to the one I see on my way to work I keep promising to share (only one wheel tho) I really must park up and take a pic of it.
I think that you could probably get a new fence every day, every week, for years living in cattle and horse country...and they are always so interesting. Very different from our white and black fencing here in KY~
I love that you take the time to stop and take pictures of these fabulous gates. It makes one wonder about the families who live on these ranches. Where do those long roads lead, who lives there, what are their lives like and so on.
great pics! :)
I love the Welcome one!Nice shots!
Dimi..
What neat looking gates!
While it's not my team... I do love that last pic:@)
I like seeing all the gates. Mine would probably say Welcome and stay locked. lol :)
I always love seeing your fences...really love that second one. Love that 'Welcome' at the top. Hope you never run out...you will have to go farther afield if you do...LOL
I like them all but especially the welcome one (even if the gate was closed!)
Blessings,
Gert
Ahhh yes! Nothing says welcome like a closed gate! That made me smile:-)
I, too, am surprised you haven't run out of fences in that 12-mile stretch. Pretty much my entire impression of Texas is coming from your blog. And, that's a good thing :) There are interesting figures at each side of the gate in the 2nd picture. I couldn't see them clearly but thought they were partly human and partly beast.
Clearly there are lots of cool fences and gates in Texas!
xo Catherine
I really, really like the "Welcome" gate!
The Welcome gate is my favorite, too. Well, it is the cowboys I really like. People around here have them but they seem weird in town.
There's no end to the variety!
Like that big star.
Oh well in the age of cell phones people can just drive up to the gate and call for them to let you in. That is if they are welcome. lol
I find them amazing. Thanks for sharing.
They really are amazing and creative!!
The gates make me miss small town life. Not too many of those around the Houston area. Are there many broken wagon wheels out there?
Wonderful gates, as always!
Those are very artistic gates! I like the cowboy and girl silhouettes. xx
I am truly jealous of all the gates in your neck of the woods!! lol
Love the silhouettes! I think you are really driving all over the state and will soon be in my neck of the woods.
I have one question for you...how the heck are you ALWAYS the first one to comment on everyone's posts????? You are the fastest mouser in the west!
Me too - love the cowboy and cowgirl silhouettes!
I used to teach with a guy who LOVED the Cowboys. I used to help him do his bulletin boards around football themes and Cowboy colors! :)
I enjou looking at gates. Never tire of gates, barns, birds, or wildlife, dogs and horses. (I almost forgot about the last two).
Lots of wonderful gates once again.
Hugs~
I like the Texas star. Very Texan. LOL!!
Great shots.
I like your collection.
Makes me wonder if there's a Redskins Drive. May be a neighbor? :-)
We don't see many gates like that second one in UK, but when we do, they tend to be known as 'Ponderosa' gates. Now I wonder where that came from!!
I would love to see my Nebraska neighbors adopt this gate creativity -- so much variety and expression. :)
I like those silhouette cut-outs. And my son-in-law needs one of those street signs. He lives in the heart of Redskins territory.
Glad you haven't exhausted your fence supply. I like that first one quite a lot.
wonderful gates. i really like that last one.
Some folks really love their "Cowboys".
I love seeing the great variety of gates in your neck of the woods.
You sure have a nice drive into town!
I too can't believe you still have gates to post! I like the welcome gate the best.
Question from a non-rancher--do cattle guards really work? And no shortage of Texas pride here, is there?
Oh, also meant to say that I do not have a welcome mat, nor gate at my house because it would be false advertising. Hate drop ins! Too much pressure on the cleaning lady--me!
