Ooh, he's purty! Love the ones of him fluffed up, or bristled as you put it. This is one bird that I have not seen in Louisiana yet but I'd see them frequently in Texas.
he is a beauty, scrub brush and all. do your dogs bark at all these birds? we had an egret in our yard yesterday and it was eating and huffing and baby barked until i threatened to debark her.
I'm always surprised by the variety of birds you see there! I've pictured NE Texas as being dry and barren! lol. But your pond attracts some very cool birdies.
Dearest Theresa, You must have a surrounding of birds heaven p;) Recently whenever we go pass the small river near my father's care-house by car, I check if I can find the heron there. We can see sometimes not often. Although not so clean environment, I may try take pictures someday♬♬♬
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan to my American photographer friend, xoxo Miyako*
The yellow crowned blends in so well with the bluish gray of the dead wood, brush,or weeds that if you were only looking about casually, he/she could be missed. Nice shots of the bird.
And, yet another I've never seen. we do have a Black-crowned Night Heron that I've seen two or three times at Reifel Bird Sanctuary. We don't go there so often as dogs aren't permitted, but it's an amazing place. Loved the comment by Pix. It would apply to me as well :)

I thought maybe a wind gust had ruffled his feathers...until he gave you that dirty look. :)
Yep we agree his feathers were ruffled. Have a super Saturday.

Fantastic as usual. Have they ran out of fish to eat yet?
Looks like you did aggravate him just a little, Tex!
